Embroidery is the art of decorating a cloth with needle work. It is the artistic use of needle and thread to create appealing designs. For this a variety of basic hand stitches are used and begins with a few basic stitches. Once these stitches are mastered, it is very easy to move into other specific embroidery techniques. A wide variety of different types of embroidery and embroidery stitches has been developed in various parts of the world with a distinctive range of stitches and decorative motifs. Historically, India has a rich tradition of ornamentation of fabrics through embroidery. The basic hand stitches are categorized by Stitch Families – for example, outline stitches, chain stitches, detached stitches, knots, filling stitches, etc.
